Announcement regarding House System allocation from September

Thank you for your emails regarding housing at Rainhill High School: please allow me to give you a little more information.

When the Covid 19 outbreak meant that schools needed to close, our transition process took an unusual turn. We relied heavily on information from Y6 teachers and senior leaders at our feeder schools to provide us with as much pastoral information as they could. Seeing that the Y6 assessments where not taking place, we have formulated forms and houses based purely and solely on the information we have been given from our feeders.

This information ranges from any Special Educational Needs, any mental health concerns or involvement with outside agencies, the pupils current attendance record, any extra-curricular clubs that the pupils take part in, other hobbies and interests, teacher predicated grades and many more. As well as collating this information primary schools where offered the chance to advise us on friendship groups or issues which we have also taken into consideration. We then have to ensure that we have an equal gender split across the forms, an equal SEN split, equal attendance issue split, equal split of vulnerable children and equal split on current working grade to ensure an even spread across the whole year group.

I understand your frustration in wanting your child to be in a house with a friend but we have used information from primary schools and moving children now would mean a whole host of changes. You are not the only parent requesting a change of house and with a cohort of 300+, I'm confident you can understand that meeting everyone's requests would be impossible.

This is a perfect opportunity for your child to make new friends and they will share all their breaks and lunch times with their peers.

My sincerest apologies for not giving you better news but I hope you can understand the reasons for keeping the forms and houses as they are.

Kind regards

Michael Wood

Year 7 Uniform

We have spoken to our uniform supplier Price & Buckland, who have provided guidance for sizing your child at https://price-buckland.co.uk/parent-zone/how-to-measure-your-child/.

You are able to order your child’s school blazer, jumper, PE kit and socks direct from their website. We would advise that you choose the option to have items delivered to your home address and not to the school.

*Please note that our supplier is stipulating an order cut-off date for delivery before the start of term of 2nd August. Since new Year 7s are unable to try garments on, they will offer FREE RETURNS on orders placed before 19th July. The Free Returns offer is available only to New Year 7 parents. Further details are available on their website www.price-buckland.co.uk

What happens if a pupil does not have the correct uniform?

Stage 1 A school version will be offered to borrow for the day and a letter sent home to parents

Stage 2 Parents will be contacted and arrangements made to bring the correct uniform into school.

Stage 3 He/she will be given a detention or spend time in Internal Exclusion until correct uniform is worn

*PE Kit expectations

The PE kit is part of your child’s school uniform and the correct kit needs to be worn. We fully suggest that your son/daughter brings their fleece to every lesson as this will be the only outer layer they are permitted to. Along with their t-shirt, shorts and socks girls can wear ALL BLACK leggings that can be purchased from school and boys can bring ALL BLACK tracksuit bottoms (in the event of very cold weather). A black base layer can be worn under t-shirts and shorts again, in the event of cold weather.
